Preservation of Historic Winchester
Winchester has long been a leader in historic preservation in the Shenandoah Valley, and since 1964 Preservation of Historic Winchester (PHW) has championed this important mission through educational programs and historic tours that inspire, educate and assist property owners and government officials to continue preservation efforts in Winchester. PHW also provides financial support for these efforts and holds protective covenants on dozens of homes in the Winchester Historic District that were at one time considered neglected or threatened structures.

Why Join PHW?
People ask, “What do I get for those dues?” You get a partnership. You get ongoing commitment to a cause you care about. You get a way to express your support for the preservation ethic. You get news about local preservation issues and access to events. You support an organization that has been part of the fabric of this community for over 60 years.

I believe in PHW’s mission. I grew up with Winchester as the backdrop for my life. The beautiful old homes and buildings throughout this town give it the charm that so many people rave about. PHW is here to build a lasting legacy through preservation and advocacy. Joining PHW has been very rewarding, as it gives me a way to directly impact the architectural heritage of the community I love.
